Thanks. After downloading gunplot 5.0 and installing under Yosemite 10.10.2, gnuplot couldn't "load" the x11 terminal. After pointing the configure fileto /opt/X11/include (reconfiguring, remaking, and reinstalling) every worked fine.(I was surprised, too, that X11 is in /opt/X11.)

You should now be able to build and run examples/plot.hs, and see three nicely anti-aliased plots. If you're using an xterm, you can also choose to leave GNUTERM unset to use gnuplot's built-in X11 support, which is uglier, but apparently allows rotation of 3D plots using the mouse.
Below is the example code for what I meant. Also note that you need :session none since otherwise the output isn't generated. This looks like a bug to me in org-babel-execute:gnuplot, so, if you feel like it, you could write to Org mailing list about it. ;)
I have been trying to make LaTeX plot directly as it compiles the pdf but it always turns out to require me to go to the terminal and process the .gnuplot file that the compilation produces, which is horribly time-consuming.Is there anyway of including the plot in the compilation of the pdf?
When trying to install gnuplot on Yosemite I got the error 'No available formula for xz (dependency of gnuplot)'. This is odd as there is a brew formula at brewformulas.org/Xz, but here's my solution:
With gnuplot 5.0, the resultant tmp2.pdf shows only solid lines, whereas with gnuplot 4.6.6, the result shows dashed lines. The postscript driver (see the "if" statement in the above script) gives dashed lines on both versions of gnuplot.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can install the latest version of Octave by getting it from Octave-Forge.However, the latest version at the time of writing is 3.4.0 and it seems to take a long time, ca 45 seconds, for the first 'plot' command to connectto gnuplot, so we are sticking with version 3.2.3 for now.
The following recipe for building from source has been tested on OS X 10.10.5 with Xcode 6.4, butyou'll need to download about 3 GB of files in the process (check your broadband limits first!). Expect the compilation/installation process to take about an hour:
